Book Summary:

A political golden boy and the woman of his dreams take the risk of their lives in a sexy romantic comedy of strange bedfellows and second chances by New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne.

Fresh off being named Citizen magazine’s Man of the Year, New York City’s youngest mayor, Robert Davenport, decides it’s time to strategize. Next move: a bid for the governor’s seat. In his way: an incumbent with a flawless reputation. He also has an Achilles’ heel: an estranged wild-child daughter with a past so scandalous it could be Robert’s ticket to victory. And a charm so irresistible it could be Robert’s downfall.

Rebellion is a thing of the past for Adeline Blake. As New York’s premier event planner, she’s all about reform and respectability. Then she’s approached by Robert to organize the party of the season. Curious, considering he’s her father’s most formidable opponent. And alarming, too. Because Addie can’t help but fall for the righteously popular candidate with the movie-star smile.

Now it’s Robert’s choice. Does he pursue a future that holds his legacy? Or the woman who holds his heart?

Lauren Layne is one of my favourite romance authors, and I’m very happy to be reviewing an ARC for her next book, Yours in Scandal. Her writing style is something I’ve always really enjoyed, and is perhaps why I love reading her books so much! I love the way she describes characters and settings and what the characters are feeling, and how easy it is to read her books.

Yours in Scandal is the first book in her new Man of the Year series, in which the male characters are voted the sexiest man of the year! I’m really excited to see what Lauren does with this series, and since I really enjoyed the first book, I’m looking forward to the others even more.

I loved Adeline from the very beginning – I love how passionate she was, and how much she enjoyed doing what she did. I really do think that Lauren Layne has some of the best written female characters in romance books. Adeline was also very kind and sweet, and I just want to give her a hug because she deserves everything good in the world. I loved watching her come to terms with certain things in her life and accepting them, like yes girl! You do you! She’s certainly up there with my favourite Lauren Layne female characters, and I’m sooo ready to see glimpses of her in the next books! If you enjoy unapologetic female characters, I’m sure you’ll love Adeline too.

Robert was an interesting character. To be honest, I don’t really prefer reading about politicians, but he eventually grew on me. I was kind of wary about his character in the beginning, but reading the book I noticed that I really didn’t mind him at all. I love how kind and open he was towards Adeline, and how sure he was around her. I honestly loved watching them fall in love – such cuties! It is said that Yours in Scandal has one of the most romantic endings in all of Lauren’s books and I can definitely see that. I loved these two so much, and I hope you do too when you read this book.

A big thing Lauren Layne is famous for is the female friendships in a lot of her books. Yours in Scandal is another book in which the female characters are great friends – and I’m sure her Man of the Year series would give us another of her iconic female friendship groups! Addie, Jane and Rosalie were very fun to read about and I loved the banter between the three of them. Hopefully, we get to see more of those three in the next two books.

Another thing I enjoyed about this book was that the two side characters (who I’m sure are the MC’s of the next two books) are women of colour! I will talk more about my thoughts on them in my review of the next books, in fear of spoiling this one, but I’ve always wanted Lauren Layne to start writing more characters of colour, and I’m happy we’re getting them!

Read this book when it comes out on March 10, and let me know what you think! x
